Why do so many people ask about getting drunk?
A very frequent question on the Food & Drink site is: If I want to get drunk, how, where, why, how much, what kind etc. If a person has to ask all these questions, I don't think they're mature enough to drink. Plus some of the answers are coming from very immature people.
Because in this country, we have vilified alcohol despite it being readily available and used by the vast majority of adults. There is no discussion regarding responsible consumption, simply: Don't do it. Until you're 21. Many teenagers and first timers are unsure of the effects, amounts, etc., because adults treat them like guyren and don't have responsible discussions.
At what age do you stop bragging about getting drunk the night before and become embarrassed about it?
I see everyone bragging about drinking tonight, and I can sure understand celebrating the end of 2008; BUT in my (not so) humble opinion, bragging about getting falling down drunk is NOT something done by mature adults
I'm glad you posted this question... It wasn't more than a few weeks ago on my way home from work that I asked myself the same question.

I don't think its an age that you stop, but a stage in your life when you start to settle down. I remember quite well bragging about going out and getting drunk into my early 20's. The drunker I got, the more I bragged about it... "Oh man, I got so fu#(ed up last night, lol" It was funny to "black out". Me and all my friends would spend the next few days laughing about all the stuff we did, but couldn't remember.

I really started to settle down around 23, I was married at 24. I'm 30 now, and I still drink, still get drunk on occasion, still look forward to going out with friends, but I haven't bragged about it in years.

On the same hand, I work with people the same age as me who still brag about it. At that age I don't know if it is a lack of maturity, a desire for everyone to think that they are cool, or if they are really just trying to convince themselvs that they are still young. When they talk about it, I'll go along and laugh... I'll tell stories about things I used to do when I was drunk, but I certainly don't think anything more of them or envy them at all.

Thanks for the question, it brought back some hazy memories... Star for you.
What will happen if I was drunk during a symphony or an opera?
Let’s say I was drunk and I was shouting loud and I made a disruption and a scene during a beautiful symphony music or shouted in the audience: “BOO YOU SUCK!!!!” Or was wild, what will happen? Will I get thrown out? Now let me ask you this? What if it was a hockey game or a loud event concert or at a comedy club? Why is it you are allowed to be loud there but not at a proper event like at a graduation, a symphony, or a formal event that is more mature?
You would be arrested and thrown out of the concert hall, of course.

Obviously some kinds of events and venues lend themselves to spectator participation more than others. As music would not be heard very well under such circumstances and the hearers would interfere with the enjoyment of the performance by others, it is sensible that security would haul these people out. Some events are more prone to drug use too, allowing or condoning more loss of self control in the process. Large groups of intoxicated people are somewhat dangerous and can and sometimes do lead to mass injuries. In comedy clubs, since much of the income of the club comes from the sale of drinks, disorderly behavior is condoned. However even they have limits. Have you met any of the large men who work in such places as bouncers? Certain bars and comedy clubs even have chicken wire barriers between the performers and the audience and have banned the sale of intoxicants in glass bottles, so that no one gets injured, until, of course, they crawl off to their vehicles and try to drive home.

Sporting events are generally visual events, not auditory events so it is not so much of a disruption if one makes noise. . Auditory events require some silence and self control to allow their proper appreciation. AFTER the piece is over, you can be as loud as you want, during the applause phase.
Should drunk drivers be punished with attempted murder?
I think that they should but I'm looking to some opposition on this one. So what are some legitimate reasons that charging them with attempted murder is wrong. They know that getting behind the wheel while drunk could kill someone- but they keep doing it. Usually the family of the deceased never recieved any justice. So why should this law not be enforced? Thanks in advance for your mature and helpful comments.
Yes, driving while intoxicated does endanger the public ... but attempted murder? I don't think so!

I do not like drunk drivers, and love to hear of them being punished ... but wouldn't proving attempted murder require proving intent to kill? Most drunks I see are not capable of forming intent to do anything ... but order another round!

For that reason I would have to say no, they should not be charged with attempted murder. They have no way to form intent.

Now if your statement was "do you think that drunk drivers should be more severely punished for their crime than they are?" Then I would agree with you. The period of suspension of driving privileges should start at 18 months for a first offender ... second offender gets a minimum of 7 years. Third offense ... revoked for life, minimum. The offender should forfeit ownership of the vehicle used EVERY time, and the minimum fine for a first offender should be $10,000.
What are some characteristics of someone who's drunk?
I'm writing a story where at one point a girl is with her fiance (betrothed marriage, they live in China) and she gets drunk. Now, I know about the whole slurred speech and staggering, but what else happens to someone when they're drunk? I've never drank alcohol and I don't plan to (I'm too young anyway), so I don't really know what it's like. Any mature help would be appreciated, since google only kept giving me mannerisms of a chronic alcoholic, and this is the first drink the girl's ever had.
Being dizzy
blurred vision
forgeting things
lapse in judgment
What dose being drunk feel like?
I am asking this question only out of curiosity. I am not tempted to try drinking. Please give a mature answer.
it feels great . but sometimes can end up feeling far worse the day after or if your suffering depression.
Did Ryan Seacrest seem drunk at the Grammys?
I definitely thought he was drunk. He even insulted Taylor Swift when he was talking to her and Miley, he said something like, "Taylor you're older than Miley, but Miley acts more mature than you." Or something to that effect. I was like "Ouch!"
Also, the way he was talking to Carrie Underwood was a little out of line. He seemed to be acting loopy, singing and dancing at random times. He also seemed to be slurring his words. Could he have just been really excited? Or drunk?
everyone seemed pretty hammed at the grammys... lol...the guy from coldplay looked wasted man... : )
Why do people think it's cool/funny to pretend to be drunk?
Jesus Christ. Anyone else get annoyed when guys pretend to be drunk because they think being drunk is funny, or even dumber, cool?

I'm NOT saying drinking is bad (it isn't). People acting like they're drunk or high so that people think they are mature is just one of my pet peeves.
I know it's so annoying. Why do they have to act? If you're drunk you're drunk, if you're not you're not. At parties people do it all the time because it seems as though the drunk people are having all the fun, but they should realise that pretending to be drunk is just a waste of a night. Either get drunk or be proud of who you are and just be yourself!
Do you think that going out and getting drunk (wasted) is an act of being immature?
I'm wondering what you think of people who get drunk nightly for fun. Do you think that getting drunk to the point of passing out and acting like a douche is appropriate when you are a mature adult? And do you think that going out to bars every weekend getting wasted is and act of being immature?
LOL, of course it is! Someone that does that really needs to grow up and be more responsible. They're not even a mature adult if they do that in the first place! Douche does not equal mature....
Why are college students so obsessed with getting drunk and partying?
Isn't it a place to mature and study hard and earning a high GPA so they can get a good job at a large company?
You are correct that the main purpose of going to college should be to obtain a degree that can enrich one's mind, and hopefully make one more marketable for more high paying and fulfilling jobs (though I know that realistically this does not always pan out). Yet, many college students squander their academic life by imbibing huge amounts of alcohol, and striving to attain escapism in other drugs. I think the reason for this is twofold.

Number one, college life is the first time, for many of them, where there is no parental or adult supervision over the day to day aspects of their lives. Since alcohol, especially in this country, is seen as such a forbidden fruit for age boys and girls, you finally get into a college environment where such restrictions are lax or nonexistent. Tell a guy a piece of candy is off limits for his first ten years of life, and then free him to eat candy on his eleventh birthday, and trust me, he will virtually overdose on chocolate. The same alluring aspect of forbidden fruit is what causes college students to get persistently inebriated, to the detriment of their health, social interactions, mental well being and grades.

Secondly, many college students seem preoccupied with getting intoxicated in order to pacify fears and anxieties about fitting in. Most of these guys came from sheltered upbringings, and when they are suddenly thrust into a high pressure, high stakes environment, where being accepted can determine much of your fate – from the type of job you will get, to the type of life partner you might meet – they tend to use alcohol as a form of anxiety medication which produces a relaxing effect. It frees them of their inhibitions, so that the normally introverted can become extroverted and liked at parties. The normally sexually conservative girl, who is looking for someone to hook up with, can through the consumption of liquor, attain a level of sexual freedom which make her more appealing to guys – a level of sexual indiscretion that she could never allow herself to partake in if she were sober. Many people, after all, can excuse themselves for things that they would like to do, but who in sober mind would have moral reservations against, if they were drunk. So if the good Christian girl, who thinks premarital sex is wrong, but knows that in order to get the guy she likes she will have to sacrifice her virginity, she can use alcohol to help facilitate her tryst, and then not feel as morally culpable because she can just blame it on the alcohol.

The issue that you brought up is important; because our alcohol fueled campuses are degrading and losing their competitive edge to increasingly competitive foreign schools. If the rampant abuse of alcohol among college students is not addressed it could result in a population of workers who are less competitive, less healthy, and more mentally unstable then their foreign counterparts.
